Weather boys by itifonhom Weather boys by itifonhom
A Ju-88 of Wekusta 27 based in Tatoi-Athens in 1943 takes another round on a yet another "weather" mission. Wekustas were the Luftwaffe Meteorological Reconnaissance units and did an important, yet dangerous work, providing the Armed Forces with accurate meteorological observations. The 3D model comes from Touchwood and the textures from me. Background from my personal archive.

They´re digital 3D models rendered with 3D programs.

Buy them most of the times but I model a bit too, just look at my WIPs. The most fun for me though is the render part, you know, making textures, backgrounds, environments, setting up a scene, the lights etc. And of course the post processing in Photoshop too!! :-)

Wwell you do a brilliant job, have you got any heinkel 111s as shots around a model or dorniels , real pictures are non existant , and I hate building models . Thanks for the info

Very nicely blended you did a great job....and it's a fantastic looking aircraft to boot.

I'm not sure about anyone else but the idea of being sent to fly around unescorted and lightly armed, Strikes me as one of those missions that would test anyone's nerves.

The "weather boys" of all nations did a hard and important job indeed and got the least credit too!! Must have been really testing, you are right!

Add to the fatigue, noise, boredom, the fact there were people up there just waiting for a chance to down an easy target.

Seems like a job worthy of a few pics, and paintings.

Awesome image! It caught my eye because I was a weather forecaster in the Air Force for 26 years.... and I enjoy pictures of historical aircraft too! Very well done!

Really a beautiful picture!
I just wonder if that plane was not slightly to heavyly armed for a simple weather recon ;)
Guess if something is woth doing, it is worth doing right!
Beautiful render anyways... great work!

Many thanks for the kind words! Well, my reference ( Junkers Ju 88 Kampfgeschwader in North Africa and the Mediterranean, Osprey) clearly shows an armed aircraft, although it was a Ju-88D, the 3D model is a Ju-88A4. But since the D version is based on the A4, I thought it's ok to use it. The skies over the Mediterranean were far from safe those days, so I suppose the armament is ok, there were ever armed recon missions with bomb loads but wasn't sure if Wekustas carried any of these, so I just left the standard defensive MGs on. The one thing it's not accurate enough are all these wave lines of the camo, really hadn't the courage to draw them one on one! :-). Many thanks for the feedback, glad to hear people like what I do!
